A New TAE format announced
In early April 2016, ASQA, the national regulator for Australia’s vocational education and training sector, announced a new Training and Assessment training package which will supersede the current qualification. TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment will be superseded by TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Why a new version of the course?
ASQA regularly reviews training packages to make sure they’re meeting the needs of industry and that the registered training organisations (RTO’s) approved to deliver those qualifications are meeting high standards.
How will the new course be different?
Key updates to the program include an extension of the minimum time required to undertake the qualification and the inclusion of two new core units (TAELLN411 Addressing Adult Language Literacy and TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools).
When can I do the new course?
All RTO’s wanting to deliver this program will have to have their new course approved by ASQA. All RTO’s will have until October 2017 to transition learners to the new TAE qualification, however as of Jan 9th 2017, only one RTO has been approved to deliver the TAE40116 version so far.
What can I do in the meantime?
While we go through the process of having our new TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment course approved, we are updating the content and the duration of our existing TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification to meet the new TAE40116 standards.
This includes the units TAELLN411Addressing Adult Language Literacy (already part of our program) and TAEASS502B Design and Develop Assessment Tools, (equivalent to TAEASS502 in TAE40116), and extending the period of time it will now take to do the program for courses after July 2016.
Programs run over 2 x 4 day blocks (8 days) of face to face training backed up with group tutorials and face to face assessment support in between.
What are my options if I want to do a Training and Assessment course now?
If you complete the Certificate IV TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment in our new format, if and when we are successful in adding the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to our scope in 2017, we will issue you with the new qualification upon request, and at no charge. Why? Because we have already mapped all the competencies into the program you do with us. Easy. That way you get what you need now, knowing the longevity of your training is assured.
Should we not be successful in adding it to our scope, we will provide you with the mapping evidence for Recognition of Prior learning (RPL) with another RTO.
For those enrolled in programs prior to July, our TAE40110 Certificate IV Training and Assessment qualification is still valid and will be until ASQA advise if any upgrades will be required.

Safety Dimensions has developed a safety-focused, nationally recognised TAE40110 Certificate IV Training and Assessment program in response to industry demand for a relevant qualification addressing the skill gap of those verifying the competency of others.
How confident are you that your team have the competence required to ensure others on your sites and projects are able to perform high risk tasks at the standards you require?
Are the people in your team adequately able to assess whether clients or operations teams can safely operate the assets, systems or infrastructure your company delivers? Is your work high risk or complex, operating in remote areas, or spanning continents, languages and cultures?
If so, how do you ensure everyone in your team maintains high standards of safety?
This program can be delivered on your site, customised to the requirements of your complex or high-risk projects. Upon successful completion, participants will be recognised with the nationally accredited TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Organisations are increasingly aware that addressing competence of workers, contractors and clients is part of their legal obligation to ensure a safe workplace.
Do you see evidence of this in your organisation?
- When delivering equipment, infrastructure or a product, standard operating procedures don’t adequately cover safe operation, thus exposing maintenance and operations teams to risk.
- That your safety professionals do not have the adequate skills to assess the competency of the operations team in the use of the required manuals, compliance standards and safe procedures.
- Post implementation, there is a realisation that safety considerations that were developed in the design phase have not been explicitly communicated to the end user.
Your people will have the ability to:
- Accurately assess and verify the competence of any worker, contractor or client for any high risk work.
- Identify training needs, based on competency gaps.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of any training undertaken to ensure continued improvement.
Organisations who take this approach report the following benefits:
- The safety team are more confident in verifying competence.
- Operations and maintenance teams in remote sites are receiving higher quality training to ensure sustainable safe outcomes.
- Less post implementation rework on projects, as clients and operators are receiving high quality training and assessment before project closure.
Additionally, having your staff trained in this accredited qualification creates a competitive advantage on large contacts, ensuring everyone involved in your projects does things ‘your way’ at each and every stage of the project.
This program can be customised for your specific workplace and you may be eligible for funded training for yourself or your organisation.
