What is the most dangerous time of the week on the roads?
SMH recently published research by the Road Safety Unit of UNSW showing that the most dangerous time on NSW roads and across the nation is around 3pm on a Saturday. Monday has found to be the safest day.
Professor Raphael Grzebieta from UNSW said that fatigue was one of the most underrated factors in road safety. Its after lunch, it is warm in the car and people get drowsy and they have been up for a while.
A sobering figure, there have been 22,482 road deaths in Australia from 2000 to 2014, roughly four each day. The good news however is that there has been a 49% decrease in the last 2 years.
The risk taking behaviours of men was also highlighted as men were three times more likely to die in a road related incidents than females.
